Bluestockings Cooperative and The Clemente Center are excited to announce Suffolk Street Solidarity / Solidaridad en Suffolk: A celebration fundraiser to sustain the essential solidarity work that our spaces—now across-the-street neighbors—do in our LES community.

Bluestockings has been part of the Lower East Side for 22 years and The Clemente for nearly 30. Bluestockings found a new home during the pandemic, and it’s right across from The Clemente on Suffolk St. We are beyond thrilled to be neighbors and for all the possibilities this opens for us to work together. We’re marking this new chapter with a joint fundraiser to mutually support each other’s work and connect our already overlapping communities.

Speakers: Alok, Rita Indiana, Molly Crabapple, Yin Q, Victoria Law
Performers: Claudi of PincLouds and Choked Up (with Cristy Road)

Raffle Items: We have coveted items and great gifts which include thematically curated bundles from Bluestockings merch, Hard-cover coffee table books donated by the Museum of the City of New York, tickets and passes to plays and concerts donated by Teatro SEA, and Arts for Art, and more.

Art in Auction: Join a chance to bid on art work by stellar Latinx artists such as Pablo Helguera, Elia Alba, Karina Aguilera Svirsky, and other compelling visual work by amazing contemporary artists such as Rachelle Mozman, Laura Nova, Susana Coffey, Jay Bulger, and original photo of Lee Scratch Perry.

Notes on access & COVID-19 safety:

As of now, we are hoping to hold this event both virtually and in-person at the Clemente's Flamboyan Theatre.

This event is wheelchair accessible.
There will be ASL interpretation.

There will be light food provided as well as a cash bar.

To make the in-person portion as safe as possible, we will be requiring proof of vaccination for entry. We’ll also encourage everyone to wear masks inside when not eating or drinking, and practice social distancing where possible.

Suffolk St Solidarity is a celebration of our communities that will support our spaces’ continued survival and shared commitment to solidarity work. Our fundraising goal of $70k will be split equally between Bluestockings & The Clemente:

Funds raised for Bluestockings will help us continue the transition to being a worker coop, creating sustainable employment for our worker-owners, bringing on more staff, and maintaining our mutual aid work. As a brand new business (on paper), we are not eligible for pandemic-related economic relief and need community support in order to keep our doors open.

Funds raised for The Clemente will subsidize up to 10 BIPOC performing artists rehearsals and micro-residencies.

Keep an eye out for more exciting announcements about performers, speakers, raffle items, and community love to look forward to at the event!
