Glassberg & The Disasters
It's a tale as old as time: girl moves from the US to Berlin, discovers that the wordy, witty-yet-oddly-poignant songs she'd been hiding from the LA scenester crowd were, in fact, probably antifolk, starts writing more of them. Hot on the heels of her full-band debut This Was Inevitable, Rachel Glassberg is thrilled to tour in her home country for the first time ever.
Musically groovy, visually striking, and lyrically unprecedented garage tropicalia that combines the complexity and insight of The Silver Jews with the immediacy, economy, and seaside sensibilities of The Ramones and the softly intricate rhythms of the Caribbean music heard at every bodega in town. Fronted by baritone basketball player-poet Johnny Dydo, the band will release new album "Forge" early next year.
Brooklyn-based artist Toby Goodshank’s style, while often centered around his solo guitar and singing abilities, draws from a variety of pop, underground art and musical influences. Unconventional song structure, humor, innuendo and wordplay are staples of his music and artwork. You may remember him from the Moldy Peaches, various other Adam Green projects, The Pizza Underground, Little Cobweb, Darwin Deez...
AND a secret mystery guest...
It all goes down at The Footlight, doors at 8pm, music 8:30 sharp, $10 entrance.
