Yin Yoga for Black Flags Over Brooklyn
Magick City | 37 Box Street, Greenpoint
Saturday, January 26, 2019
10-11:15am | $15
Basking in Gravity is a 75-minute Yin yoga and meditation session led by Daniel Chamberlin, artist, writer, yoga teacher, and Zen student. This unhurried sequence of asanas will be accompanied by heavy drones and an undulating mandala projection of Adirondacks flora.
Yin yoga is an opportunity to feel gravity pulling our bodies apart. It is a slow and low form of yoga where we hold poses for extended periods of time, a descending practice that aims to be free from striving, but not always relaxing.
Basking in Gravity takes concepts from Yin yoga and Zen meditation and emphasizes their implications for radical body acceptance and use as a tool for escaping false binaries. This is the body we have today, the only body, the ultimate body, the every body. Basking in Gravity is a space for ritual release, a celebration of the finitude of our lives, and a chance to drift and sink into the flow of our own fluids.
This experience is intended to be accessible to all bodies and experience levels. Please bring your own mat. Space is limited to 10 guest, so RSVP at your earliest convenience.
Basking in Gravity at Magick City is presented in camaraderie with Black Flags Over Brooklyn, an anti-fascist, anti-racist extreme metal festival happening at Brooklyn Bazaar on January 25-26, 2019.
