KAT (they/them) is an emerging queer artist experimenting with multilayered performance. Dance is at the center of their practice, as it has been their whole life (tap dancing while brushing their teeth, etc). Improvisation and collaboration are integral to their work which centers vulnerability, relationship, resonance, and multiplicity of self. Making work is KAT’s way of understanding the deeper questions they have about life and love while connecting with the world and simultaneously growing closer to their self.
About the Work
KAT—in collaboration with Janice Daughters—is creating a new solo work set to premiere this fall with Indexical. Currently untitled, the piece is an experimental musical about their life. It explores the tragedy of inherited misconceptions of love, accumulated trauma, and the reckoning with and untangling of it all in practicing love/friendship/family. Dance lives at the center of this puzzle they are piecing together, with their voice, installation, poetry, and comedy swirling around the periphery. Nebulous still, KAT invites you to share with them in discovering the form this will all find itself in come late November.
