In the miserable Northeastern Brazil, a ruthless land Baron wants to throw a poor farming community out of their land.
One of the zaniest Brazilian musicals ever made is directed by one of the greatest film composers of Brazilian cinema. The film played the NYFF in 1974, but has since received little attention outside Brazil, where it has become a kind of cult hit over the last 20 years. The music is wonderful, and the campy aesthetics feel like nothing out of Brazilian cinema from this period.
