“As the cultural dial continues to shift in favor of increased access to information and away from the physical vestiges of that data, how does our relationship to memory and sentimentality move along with it? In an artist-led discussion, performance and visual artist Jader invites us to explore their virtual reality environment and consider how the changing technological landscape shapes our relationship to the past, and necessarily, to the future as well.”

If this is your first time in Mozilla Hubs*, please join our warm-up exercise 15 minutes before the event at 18:45 pm PST! We'll show you basic technical skills so you can participate in the event comfortably. Mozilla Hubs is accessible with or without VR headsets through your browser (and computer, phones, tablets etc.). Fast internet and a computer with a mouse and headphones can make a difference in your experience though. Safari doesn’t support Mozilla so please use Firefox or Chrome!
JADER is an interdisciplinary artist making work that inhabits the space between fact and fantasy, like a funhouse mirror held up to the world. By way of a bold, colorful aesthetic and no small dose of camp and humor, Jader’s work is as nightmarish as it is cartoonish, yet conceptually grounded in the universality of the human (and queer) condition. Jader creates films and images that imagine parallel realities and offer a glimpse into a new frontier that is equal parts alluring and unnerving. They also foster a performance practice and their collective Toxic Waste Face (with Pseuda and Urheinous) has performed at Miami Art Basel, Kunsthall Stavanger, Norway, and various other venues across the US; the group received a California Arts Council Artists in Communities grant in 2019. Jader has a degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and splits their time between LA and San Francisco.
Space is limited to 25 active participants. As an active participant, you are able to engage in conversation with Jader and the other guests. In case the room is full, you can still watch the event from the Lobby, which is limited for viewing and listening only. Please arrive on time in order to be able to actively participate.
