Opening the 0.1% program (https://navel.la/events/dna), in conjunction with the launch of the Massive Science x NAVEL collaborative zine, Associate Professors Dr. Terence Keeland Dr. Aaron Panofsky from the UCLA Institute for Society and Genetics present on what it means to have 0.1% of variation between people.

Through their presentation, they will demonstrate how there are multiple ways to think about the percentage of genetic difference, not only within groups, but also between humans and non-humans. They will also speak to contemporary issues surrounding the health implications of genetic difference and the use of scientific data to support white supremacist arguments that are fundamentally unsound.

Spanning over 5 days, 0.1% is a program organized by Dr. Yewande Pearse, which aims to demystify how genomics inform identity. It comprises of an exhibition, a presentation by Dr. Aaron Panofsky and Dr. Terence Keel from the UCLA Institute for Society and Genetics, and the release of a Massive Science x NAVEL collaborative zine (more info below) on the impact of genomic studies on three aspects of identity: race, gender and politics
