PLEASE NOTE: this is an online only class with four meetings over five weeks with a week’s break in the middle to facilitate experimentation. Each class lasts about 1 hour but please give yourself a little bit of wiggle room for any individual class to go a bit long. individual classes will be recorded and archived.

This workshop will explore how to process composite video signals with basic electronic circuitry. Beginning with individual components like resistors and capacitors and building up to operational amplifier ICs, we will cover techniques for manipulating camera feeds, VHS recordings, and any other video signal in the composite format.

No electronics experience required, though participants will need to source their own materials ($30-50 depending on where you buy them*) as well as have access to equipment that generates and displays composite video signals.

About the instructor:

Sean Russell Hallowell (@isorhythmics) is a composer and audiovisual artist from San Francisco. His work is inspired by relationships between abstract form, natural structure, and our perceptual apparatus. Much of it makes use of hand-built circuits of his own design, including audio-reactive video synthesizers.
