A fundraiser for the Baltimore Abortion Fund!

With more than 49 million articles in 280 languages, Wikipedia holds the promise of democratizing knowledge through its growing community of volunteer editors. However, the vast majority of editors are white and male-identifying, which limits the topics covered and the critical perspectives represented. This is evident in the lack of adequate information on abortion and reproductive justice, especially at the state and local level. With Roe overturned, people need accessible resources on abortion policy where they live.

Let's build those resources. Join us at Red Emma's, 3128 Greenmount Ave, Baltimore, MD 21218, on Saturday, January 21 from 3pm to 6pm for an editing marathon (edit-a-thon!) to update and improve the Wikipedia article on Abortion in Maryland. We will provide tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, reference materials, and free internet access. Dr. Carole McCann, Chair of Gender, Women’s, + Sexuality Studies at UMBC will discuss her research on the early history of Maryland’s Planned Parenthood at 3pm. Bring your laptop, power cord, and ideas for improving this article and others like it. Red Emma’s will be selling delicious food and drinks, and we will be fundraising on behalf of the Baltimore Abortion Fund. Even if you can’t stay long, stop by to show your support for both the edit-a-thon and the Baltimore Abortion Fund.

Editors are encouraged to register on our event dashboard prior to the event: https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/NA/Abortion_in_Maryland?enroll= (A note: When registering for a Wikipedia editor account, choose a username that is anonymous in order to protect your privacy.)
