New York City-based Pavone and Kasten Krause met by being placed together in the ensembles of other like-minded music experimentalists. It wasn't long before they realized their unique sonic preferences, aesthetics, and approaches to their instruments were similarly aligned and worth further investigation. Over the course of two seasons, they explored and experimented with sound worlds and structures, resulting in the four pieces that make up this album. Images of One is the first release from this newly formed duo. While uncovering their distinctive ability to blend and the similar ways their instruments respond when executing timbre and texture, they discovered by odd coincidence that although acquired during different decades and in other parts of the country, they both play instruments crafted by the Salt Lake City-based luthier Paul Hart.

As both an instrumentalist and composer, Jessica Pavone explores music's tactile and sensory experience as a vibration-based medium. Pavone has been a composer in residence at the Ragdale Foundation, the Ucross Foundation, and Soaring Gardens and has received grants from the Queens Council on the Arts (2022, 2020), Foundation for Contemporary Arts (2021), New Music USA (2015), the Tri-Centric Foundation (2015), Experiments in Opera (2013), the Jerome Foundation (2011), and MATA Interval (2007). Her works have premiered in NYC venues including; Roulette, the Noguchi Museum, ISSUE Project Room, Abrons Art Center, the Museum of Art and Design, and The Kitchen. Her albums have been produced by Tzadik, Taiga Records, Thirsty Ear, Astral Spirits, and Relative Pitch, including four collaborative duo recordings with guitarist Mary Halvorson. From 2005 to 2012, Pavone toured regularly with Anthony Braxton’s Sextet and 12+1tet, and she appears on his discography from that time.

Tristan Kasten Krause is a bassist and composer living in Brooklyn, New York, whose work explores the energy created by close tones and subtle gestures. He has been credited with lending his “low-end authority to vital New York institutions” (the New Yorker) and praised for his “heavenly” (The Guardian) original compositions. Equally at home in concert halls, galleries and DIY spaces, Tristan has worked and performed with experimental mainstays such as Alvin Lucier, Caroline Shaw, LEYA, Steve Reich, Man Forever, and David Lang. He has performed on the Lincoln Center Festival, Basilica Hudson’s 24-Hour Drone Fest, and in the Tony Award-winning Oklahoma! on Broadway. He is a member of New York-Based ensembles Argento New Music and Contemporaneous.

Kajwan Ziaoddini and Amir Aboutaleb will present a set of pieces in the Iranian classical genre based on improvisational dialogue between two traditional Persian instruments, Tar and Santour. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xlJIdAz0no
