FIVE SIX SETS OF LIVE CONTINUOUS MUSIC!

ONE DEEP DIVE.

Enter the bardo on Friday, June 16th at Weylin, the iconic mandala-like former Williamsburg Savings Bank in Brooklyn, NYC.

7pm - Midnight

Friday (June 16th) we are hosting our most ambitious Bardo Bath yet at Weylin (the former Williamsburg Savings Bank in Brooklyn). It is in many ways a return to the mixed-media Happenings that we used to host at Magick City, in Greenpoint, before the pandemic.

"Bardo" refers to a liminal state in between rebirths, or in between states of consciousness. The "Bardo Bath" evolved out of the ambient "Bardo Sessions" we used to hold in between the more raucous rock music sets at those Magick City Happenings.

DANCE -> MEDITATE -> DANCE -> MEDITATE -> DANCE

Bardo Bath: DEEP DIVE is a non-linear journey of transformation DIS-organized in terms of the mantra of Manjushri ("Gentle Voice"); the Buddhist archetype of wisdom who is also believed to be a Gandharva (a celestial musician).

Yup, that's six sets of fully improvised and continuous music!

GARCIA PEOPLES (Caesar Arakaki, drums; Danny Arakaki, guitar; Andy Cush, bass; Pat Gubler, keyboards + Tom Malach, guitar), RYLEY WALKER (guitar) + J.R. BOHANNON (pedal steel guitar), and CHRIS DINGMAN (vibraphone). As well as JESSE JARNOW + KENDRA AMALIE + SCOTT WILLIAMS.

MACRODOSE (Chris Georges and Gregory Thrasher) will be projecting light art all night, while ARIK MOONHAWK ROPER paints the dome with live-action e-painting. We'll also be screening a new Dharma Art Film by YOSUH JONES. And enjoying the latest batch of surreal sculptures by ENDA CARTY.

There will be guided meditation and performance dharma art by DOC KELLEY and GUILLAUME CARON.

It's a good thing we've got a really amazing risk reduction team on site (aka our PSYCHEDELIC RANGERS ). Guillaume Caron is leading a team that includes MIKE FOWLER, DINA PERCIA, JOANNA YAP, and JAYSE LEE. (You'll know them by their white cowboy hats.)

For this event, we want to celebrate those who have recently entered the Bardo by erecting a Buddhist altar with offerings.

As music freaks, we'll be lighting candles for David Crosby, Tina Turner, Harry Belafonte, Jeff Beck, Gordon Lightfoot, and still others. We invite you to do the same! Please bring flowers, food, candles, incense, and whatever feels appropriate. Look for LUNA VAN ARSDALE who is in charge of the altar installation.

Be prepared for some performance art and ritual! If you were at our last Bardo Bath at Weylin, then you'll recall that we invited you to burn money (real and fake) as a symbolic act of liberation from attachments. We'll be doing that again at check-in on the steps of Weylin.

After the show, we'll be making a pilgrimage down to the river to release the ashes of those burnt attachments into water. That'll probably happen around midnight. Find KEITH HADAD, or a Bardo "DIS-organizer” located near the light show and they will pass you a bell or drone for the procession.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll have any yoga mats to loan to people. So be sure to bring one, as well as anything else you might like to curl up in and then shed for dancing.

Lastly, we've scheduled a community integration circle Monday evening for trip-takers who might need some grounding post-Bardo.
