It's our seventh birthday, and all month long we're turning the keys over to THE FRIENDS OF HYPERREAL 💛🌟🫂
Come with us on a sweet ass journey back to 1998, a carefree time before y2k and 9/11, an era of dance anthems and mesh shirts, jewel tones and Orange Juliuses, whippets and gymbos… behold: A Night at the Roxbury. See the Butabi brothers, played by Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan, strut the mean streets of Beverly Hills chasing their dream of becoming LA club scene elite. Roxbury gives us so much in only 82 minutes: production design, slapstick, homages, montages, choreography, and a banging soundtrack. It’s a bromance that asks the age old question: what is love?
One might also ask: was it a good idea to produce a feature length film based on a 3-minute non-speaking SNL sketch about two coked-out sex pests? No. . . YES! Despite being considered a flop, Roxbury saw Ferrell launched into comedy movie super stardom, and Kattan into… something. It also features iconic performances from Molly Shannon, Dan Hedaya, Loni Anderson, Michael Clarke Duncan, Richard Grieco, Elisa Donovan and an oft overlooked appearance by Jennifer Coolidge (ACAB includes Hottie Police Officer).
You couldn’t make this movie today, not because it’s controversial but because it’s silly and niche and shot on film. Directed by Arrested Development’s John Fortenberry and produced by Clueless’s Amy Heckerling, you don’t want to miss this screening. Join us at Hotel Vegas Monday 7/17 in your shiniest club apparel for A Night At The Roxbury.
