25th anniversary!
Is there a more Y2K idea than a cursed videotape that kills viewers a week after they’ve seen it? Why does a ghost girl crawling out of a TV make us forget how to breathe?
Arriving alongside the BLAIR WITCH at the end of the 20th century, the micro-budget RINGU helped shake up a complacent genre lousy with slasher sequels. Horror has never been the same.
We open on a sleepover and quickly learn the game: watch the cursed video, get a cursed phone call, die mysteriously seven days later. As we follow journalist Reiko, the aunt of one of the sleepover victims, we learn the haunting tale of a well and psychic research gone wrong.
Can Reiko save those she’s implicated in her quest for information? What will it cost her? Will you die a week later if you watch this movie? Will you wear a spooky dress and brush your hair over your face? (OMG, please do.)
