Sandi Tan’s Shirkers is a documentary about a road trip movie her and her friends decided to make in Singapore. Their film teacher was the director and one day while the friends went to study abroad, leaving the footage with their teacher Georges. He disappeared. They tried to get the footage back but only occasionally received a mysterious cassette tape with nonsense recorded onto it. Interviews with Sandi and her friends unravel a story of learning about the past and dealing with the changes that come over time.

Shirkers is such a unique product because rarely do you see something unfinished finally come to light years later. Taking that and combining it with an introspective look into growing up and coming of age make this a truly unique film and something that chances are you’ll never see done similarly again.
