Notes from Ian Douglas-Moore, organizer of February's Fire Over Heaven concert:

The concert room at Outpost Artists Resources has a unique resonance that brings out interesting aspects of acoustic music, and many of my favorite performances that I've heard there have come from musicians that hone in on those qualities of the site. For the next Fire Over Heaven, Henry Birdsey will activate the room with a set of parlor bagpipes, a (slightly) quieter cousin of the more familiar highland pipes. Afterwards, Gelsey Bell and Erin Rogers will present Skylighght, their project that couples the resonances of Gelsey's voice and Erin's saxophone with the room itself, creating vivid, visceral acoustic phenomena.

Two sets of excellent music that you won't hear anywhere else!

------

Henry Birdsey is a composer and musician from Vermont. His music is often drone-based and usually involves microtonal tunings. He plays bagpipes, lap steel, pedal steel, and harmonicas. Recent touring projects include Tongue Depressor, Formant, and Trespass Field.

Skylighght is the duo project of vocalist Gelsey Bell and saxophonist Erin Rogers, both active figures of the New York City experimental music community who have worked together for 15+ years as part of the new music collective, thingNY. Composed collaboratively in 2019, Skylighght cultivates a minimalist music constructed upon the organic acoustic vibrations of interlaced resonances and a mutual performer sensitivity. An exploration of resonant properties, Skylighght has been performed over a dozen times in spaces of varying characteristics, from grain silos to living rooms, from concert halls to outdoor tunnels.
