Basking in Gravity is a 90-minute Yin yoga and meditation session led by Indiana-based artist Daniel Chamberlin, aka Cosmic Chambo. This slow and low sequence of asanas will be accompanied by Dead Bird Blues (2019), an animated mandala projection. The practice will also feature a selection of New Age, ambient, drone, and “cosmic metal,” as heard on Chamberlin’s Inter-Dimensional Music broadcast on WQRT Indianapolis and Marfa Public Radio in Far West Texas.
Dead Bird Blues (2019) is a slowly turning mandala composed of Daniel Chamberlin’s photographs of a Northern Parula, a migratory warbler that died in a collision with a high-rise bank window in downtown Muncie, Indiana. The mandala completes one sequence each hour.
Basking in Gravity takes concepts from yoga and Zen and emphasizes their implications for radical body acceptance and use as a tool for escaping false binaries. This is the body we have today, the only body, the ultimate body, the every body. Our practice is a space for ritual release, a celebration of the infinite flux of life, and a chance to drift and sink into the flow of our fluids.
Both Basking in Gravity sessions are intended to be accessible to all bodies and experience levels. Please bring your own yoga mat. For more information contact cosmic.chambo@gmail.com or visit daniechamberlin.com.
