This hands-on workshop is a practical introduction to Tidalcycles, a free and open source platform for live coding musical patterns.
In this workshop we will cover everything you need to get up and running with TidalCycles (or just Tidal for short) – a free and open source platform for live coding musical patterns. Starting with the basics of installation and running the software, through to programming beats and manipulating samples, we’ll look at all the elements required for you to start putting together your own live coding sets from scratch. No prior programming or music making experience required, but you will need a laptop (mac, PC or linux all fine) and a pair of headphones to take part in this workshop.
TidalCycles is free/open source software, that allows you to make patterns with code, whether live coding music at algoraves or composing in the studio. This workshop is part of Algorithmic Art Assembly, a festival featuring two days of talks and two nights of live music focused on algorithmic tools and processes.
This workshop ticket must be purchased separately and is not included in the festival passes.
Doors open at 1:30pm for an hour of prep and assistance with software setup.
