Defund and Abolish: Direct Digital Action! (Tea Base x Friends of Chinatown Toronto - FOCT x Toronto Prisoners' Rights Project)

Digital Direct Action is a simple way to consistently and actively engage in acts of solidarity through knowledge and being present with each other. Now is the time to remind ourselves about the power of relationships and that we are not alone.

For our second DDA, we're joining the Toronto Prisoners' Rights Project' to take action around prisoners' rights, prison abolition, and defunding the police—and learn about how the fight for prisoner justice is deeply connected to racial justice.

// Action Overview //

Date: Sunday June 14, 2020
Time: 830 - 930 pm EST
MC: Hannia Cheng
Speaker: Rajean Hoilett (Toronto Prisoners' Rights Project )

All proceeds will be given to TPRP's COVID-19 Prisoner Support Fund: https://gf.me/u/x36uav

15 minutes of information sharing: Get informed
25 minutes of action: Break-out rooms and scalable actions
10 minutes of after care (optional): Communal group stretch exercise

During the action, people are asked to blast on social media, sign petitions, send emails to their representatives, or call their representatives depending on what each person's comfort level is. Each breakout room will have a facilitator who is there to guide you through the process and make sure you feel confident in taking action.

Toronto Prisoners' Rights Project is a network of frontline workers, community activists, former prisoners, loved ones of those in prison and concerned community members. They came together to build an abolitionist movement centred in direct action. They are committed to ensuring that no prisoner is left behind in response to COVID-19—and will continue to advocate for prisoner justice and prison abolition beyond this moment.
