set the altar: queer interfaith life, spirituality + identity olivia ahn
July 18
1:00 pm-3:00 pm EST
This is a QTBIPOC (Queer/Trans Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color) centered space and is intended as an offering specifically for QTBIPOC people.
Set The Altar is a collective tending space where participants are encouraged to honor a god/godess/gxdxx, diety, divinity, saint and/or ancestor that they currently work with in their spiritual and/or religious practice that supports and protects them either in their queer identity or cultural lineage.
Participants will be encouraged to engage in a storytelling of the origin of the ancestor/spirit/deity/saint and what role they play, energy they bring, and what they represent in their cultural context and their life. The facilitator will also create a precedent context of how spirits, deities, saints, patrons, and ancestors + that we engage, honor, and energetically/spiritually work with has been the everlasting technology of our communities and cultures that has endured and will continue to remain resilient. Space will also be held to share and learn from our experiences as QTBIPOC interfaith, religious, and/or spiritual people in the aim to cultivate and celebrate our current practices.
This space is a community offering that will be a combination of creative visioning, cultivating/skill sharing spiritual technologies, intimacy building, and deep heart work. This will be the beginning of a proposed queer spiritual anthropological effort to honor those who have carried us through the eras and ethos of our times.
