Outpost has served the arts community since 1991, hosting some of the first video post production residency programs in New York City, and offering a unique, honest, and open environment for the creation of video art. Since then, we have expanded our scope to include experimental music concerts, media arts festivals, gallery shows, and more. Our small staff is dedicated to nurturing adventurous and challenging interdisciplinary work through our residencies, events, and exhibitions.

Over the last 28 years Outpost has directed our energies and resources toward helping fellow artists and musicians--an already cash-strapped community whom we’ve never felt comfortable asking for money, figuring it was our job to give financial and tech support to you. But we find ourselves at an impasse. The government funding at city, state, and national levels upon which we have relied has been cut to a trickle and new business models among our donor foundations currently favor much larger institutions for ongoing support. In this moment of extraordinary need, our long time friend and collaborator William Basinski has generously offered to play a benefit concert for us on Thursday, November 1st. Not only will it will be a special opportunity to hear this world-renowned avant-garde composer perform his new work, but with your ticket purchase you’ll be helping to ensure that our legacy as an incubator and platform for the experimental media arts continues on into the future.

Basinski is a classically trained musician and composer who has been working in experimental media for over 30 years in NYC and most recently, California. Employing obsolete technology and analogue tape loops, his haunting and melancholy soundscapes explore the temporal nature of life and resound with the reverberations of memory and the mystery of time. His epic 4-disc masterwork, The Disintegration Loops received international critical acclaim and was chosen as one of the top 50 albums of 2004 by Pitchfork Media. Basinski is currently touring the world in support of his latest work, "On Time Out of Time" which will be released in January 2019 on Temporary Residence/2062/USA
