Kitchen Cabinet Immunity Remedies 2/9 7-9pm EST

Cold and flu season is here, but you don't have to hunt down fancy herbs to be well-prepared for it—everything you need to support your immune system is probably already in your cupboard!

In Kitchen Cabinet Immunity Remedies, herbalist Jess Turner will offer a primer on ways to strengthen immune health with spices like Cinnamon and Ginger, culinary herbs like Thyme and Rosemary and pantry staples like Garlic and Onion. The focus will be accessibility: together she and attendees will uplift remedies that are easy to find, shelf-stable and can be made from what is lying around in the pantry.

Attendees will walk through an overview of the immune system and its function, discuss cost-free ways to support immunity and build their toolkit of immune-strengthening strategies with what’s stocked on their grocery store shelves. Includes medicine-making portion! Folks will craft a spicy, healing herbal vinegar, onion cough syrup and immunity-building ferment together with Jess.

Sliding scale tickets are $15 for BIPOC only, $30 to $60 for everyone else.

Jess Turner (she/her) is a Black clinical herbalist whose practice is centered on helping frontline communities—low-income, working-class and BIPOC communities who experience the first and worst impacts of climate change—repair through connection to the land and plants growing around them. In cities, these plants are often discarded as mere weeds. She is interested in exploring the liberatory struggles of the plants and people whom capitalism alienates and building bridges between human and more-than-human worlds.
