Living Marks: Transforming Physical Spaces with Gifts from the Digital World
an improvisational participatory performance
Sunday, October 10 — 3:00 - 4:30pm Pacific Time

In the past year many of us have formed, belonged to, and created in new digital sites together. We offer this session as a moment of co-creative reflection and materializing, exploring qualities of emerging rhythms in these evolving spaces.

Specific questions include:
- What are aspects of digital co-creative spaces we find valuable?
- What could they look like in physical spaces?
- What might be the process of transfer and translation?

Living Marks is an intra-disciplinary group practice of improvisational performance and materialization. An ensemble gathers on Zoom and, for a set length of time, co-creates within their chosen media, responding to stimuli from prompts and each others’ practice. The ritual nature of the gathering--as well as the familiar-strange of Zoom--offers a space ripe for participants to contemplate questions of materiality, fugitive boundaries, un/becoming, recording and ephemerality, and what constitutes shared experience in the digital realm.
This session will begin with a short discussion of the topic followed by a session of group practice. Dance, music, sound, drawing, mime, needlepoint, painting, videography, and animated drawing are modes we have incorporated so far, and the space is open for infinite methods and materializations.

Privacy: This open session will be recorded and may be shared with the public. We invited you to participate as you feel comfortable, with cameras on or off. Disguises are welcome if you wish to participate with video and remain more anonymous.
