Franklin, NY
Franklin Chthonics is a deep investigation of a large tract of land in NY’s Delaware County: the turbulent evolution of its woodlands, fields, water and wildlife, the driving of this evolution (intentional and unwitting) by people.
The largest mass extinction event in North America since the Ice Age is happening all around us. The emerald ash borer is surging through the woods of Franklin Chthonics and will kill every untreated ash tree in our woods, of which there are thousands. Without intervention, Franklin Chthonics would likely be devoid of ash trees in the next decade. However, by individually treating trees, on a three year rotation, we can save individuals, with the aim of creating a preserve of ash trees that might provide a unique ecosystem for future generations. Your donation pays for the treatment of one of the ash trees in the preserve, sparing it the fate likely to visit nearly every other ash tree in North America.
